POINT D'ÉQUILIBRE: A solo exhibition by François Bonnel
Forthcoming exhibition
Overview
Macadam Gallery is pleased to present "Point d’équilibre", the new solo exhibition by the French artist François Bonnel. This exhibition unveils a series of exclusive unique works that explore contrasts and dialogues between transparency and opacity, inviting the viewer to question the concepts of balance and imbalance in our perception of the visible.
The line, a fundamental element of visual language, is at the heart of François Bonnel’s artistic approach. Through his works, Bonnel highlights the richness of the line in all its qualities: clarity, precision, fluidity, and expressive power. Inspired by masters such as Henri Matisse, who stated, "Drawing is making an expressive gesture with the advantage of permanence," Bonnel celebrates the descriptive and emotional potential of a simple gesture. Each line, whether delicate or energetic, guides the viewer’s gaze through forms and movements that vibrate with intensity. In this exhibition, the line transcends its usual role as a mere boundary and becomes a tool for construction, dynamism, and interpretation.
With the development of abstract art in the 20th century, it became clear that one of the main characteristics of the language of abstract painting concerned the manipulation of the medium in overlapping layers. Embedded in this tradition, Bonnel explores with singular virtuosity the tensions between transparency and opacity, concealment and revelation, creating deep and immersive works.
The artist explores the play of light in his compositions. Combining geometric rigor and artistic spontaneity, he offers the viewer a singular harmony in which colors vibrate in perfect balance, each playing an essential role in the construction of space and meaning.
‘’Point d’équilibre’’ also invites reflection on the temporality inherent in François Bonnel’s works. The surfaces of transparency and opacity, far from being merely juxtaposed, tell a story where each layer seems to engage in dialogue with those that precede or follow it. This process reveals a silent narrative, a patient construction that captures attention and sparks contemplation. Here, balance does not manifest as a static state, but as a dynamic tension between what is shown and what is suggested, offering the viewer a visual and introspective experience, where each gaze unveils new dimensions.
